Music for Children
First Baptist Church of Tucker is committed to living out the Biblical ideal expressed in Psalm 71:17-18: “Since my youth, O God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come.”

People of all ages are commanded to declare God’s marvelous deeds and praise Him as their God. It is actually the duty of the older generations to ensure that the faith is passed down effectively and thoroughly to the younger generations that follow. God values the voices of all of His children, and so we seek to utilize the gifts of all generations in a visible way during our Sunday morning times of gathered worship.

Children participate in the Sunday morning service in a variety of ways: they pray, they read Scripture, they present prepared musical selections they have learned in Hero Camp (provide link??) or during Vacation Bible School, and they participate in weekly Children’s Sermons, led by ministers or lay leaders involved in the Children’s ministry. Once children have completed kindergarten, they are encouraged to remain in the service with their parents or another adult. Children are able to learn a great deal from the singing of hymns and songs of praise, from the hearing of God’s Word, and from observing the adults around them living out and growing in their faith. Younger children are free to return to the Nursery after the Children’s Sermon each week.

There are opportunities each year for the children to take on an even greater role in worship, by presenting an extensive dramatic or musical work during the service. Children may have solos or dramatic roles, in addition to participating in the choral music program. These opportunities vary each year, but often include a Christmas musical and another special program in the spring, rehearsed mostly during Hero Camp.
